This Watch We have here a classic Oris timepiece and one of Oris's most iconic designs. The silvered dial has a mixture of applied Arabic and dagger markers, which sit on a guilloched ring. The outer minute tracking is inside the date ring, which is displayed around the outermost edge of the dial. The pointer hand, fitted with a red half moon, moves to show the current date. Along with the sweeping central seconds hand, the watch has cathedral hour and minute hands that are lumed and provide a nice contrast to the dial, making for an easy read. The dial is signed 'Oris, 25 Jewels' at 12 o'clock and 'Automatic, Swiss Made' at 6 o'clock. The 36mm, polished stainless steel case has a gentle curve to the tapered lugs, and a lug to lug length of 42mm. The thickness is 11. 5mm, which makes for a comfortable wear on the wrist. On the right hand side of this case is the distinctive big crown, which ties in nicely to the coin edge bezel. Inside is the automatic Oris caliber 654, which is visible through the exhibition case back, and has been fully serviced by us and is running strongly. We've kept the watch on its original 18mm, stainless steel bracelet with an Oris signed deployment clasp, but it looks great on leather too. The watch comes with our quality presentation box. Extra Points Oris was founded in 1904 by two men, Paul Cattin and Georges Christian. The name comes from a brook in the Swiss town of Hlstein. In a short span of time they became the largest employer in Hlstein. By 1929, they had a total of six factories and at the end of the 1960s, Oris became one of the largest watch companies in the world, producing approximately 1. 2 million timepieces a year. The 'Big Crown' was introduced in 1938 to be used by pilots who wore thick leather gloves and needed a bigger crown for making adjustments. This watch comes fully serviced by our on site workshop and with a 12 month, non waterproof service cover. What we think I'm a big fan of Oris and we've had many of these Pointer Dates over the years. They usually do very well as people can really see the value for money that they offer!
